European Commission has awarded to a company and institution
consortium, including Sogin, a European tender on the development of a
national policy and strategy for the radioactive waste and spent fuel
management. The contract is in the process of being finalized and signed
by the European Commission. Within the project a first study on the
national repository for the radioactive waste, considering the best
international practices, is included and will support Armenian
institutions in their decision making process.
In addition to Sogin, the State company for the Italian nuclear
site environmental restoration and the safe management of the
radioactive waste, the consortium includes: ITER-Consult, an Italian
Technical Support Organization for safety assessment (consortium
leader), STUK, the Finnish nuclear safety authority, ARAO, Slovenian
State agency for the radioactive waste management and IBERDROLA, a
Spanish company active in the energy and nuclear technology fields. A
total of eight consortia, including the major European actors in the
sector, have participated to the tender. The value of the contract is
about one million Euro.
This achievement confirms the role of Sogin, headed by Giuseppe
Nucci CEO, as a competitive and efficient international player in the
management of radioactive waste, operating in compliance with
international criteria and high safety standards.
